Gadwall drake duck

Description

A young Gadwall drake poses in quiet waters of the marsh. From a distance they don't seem very pretty, but get a closer look, you'll see beautiful intricate design of feathers and often several colors. Though Alaska is not a common area for nesting, they do come here as they migrate north in late spring.
