King Eider in Alaska

This mature King Eider is so colorful and majestic! A sea-duck of the high-Arctic he nests in the tundra and shallow lakes near the coast. Dives deep to sea floor to feed or on the underside of sea ice. On a lake he picks prey from the water's surface by straining water through his bill to trap tiny prey.
